Glastonbury Festival 2013

Green Police at Glastonbury

Glastonbury's Green Police are organised and provided by the Save the World Club Charity. For more information about either the Green police or the charity please go to http://savetheworldclub.org.

The Green police will again be out in force at the Glastonbury Festival and their message is still the same:

Use the toilets provided - Please don't pee just anywhere, the ground really can't take it. Remember there are 175,000 people at the Festival and all that urine goes straight into the water table and into rivers and streams for miles around. It isn't good for the ground and it isn't good for the fish! If you are caught peeing you run the risk of being expelled from the Festival, or at least being very publicly ridiculed by the Green Police! This year, there will be more toilets than ever - including compost toilets. They will be inspected twice a day by environmental health students and some toilet blocks will have cleaners working them 24/7.

Use the bins provided - Glastonbury generates huge amounts of waste and rubbish. There are now 40,000 very well signposted and beautifully painted bins (colour-coded for recycled and other rubbish) virtually everywhere on site for your rubbish. As you enter the site, stewards will hand you a black bag and a green bag - please fill these up as you go!
There are now very well signposted recycling bins virtually everywhere on site. Please use them for your rubbish. The Green Police will be distributing recycling bags directly to the camping areas. In the past, these have been well used - thank you. Please help the litter-pickers out by filling the bags with your rubbish. Thanks again for all your help.

Use the Cigarette 'BUTT BINS' - This year Green police will be handing out special butt bins for all you smokers out there. One cigarette butt can contaminate up to 8 litres of water. Every single butt that is dropped on the beautiful Glastonbury Festival land has to be picked up and it takes months to do so!

We hope you all have a fantastic Festival and look after yourselves, eachother and the land the festival is on. We are a fun, colourful police force but our message is serious and important: KEEP THE FESTIVAL CLEAN!
