Glastonbury Festival Of Contemporary Performing Arts - Areas - The Decontamination Unit and The Skywalk

In order to gain access to the new, much cleaner and far superior Shangri-La, all citizens must be decontaminated.

This year, global charitable foundation The Wellcome Trust, have commissioned Shangri-La to design and produce The Decontamination Unit and The Skywalk, interactive installations that will form part of their 2011 Dirt season. www.dirtseason.org

The Virus is spread via touch (symptoms include loss of moral inhibition, nymphomania and other dubious delights).  The only way to achieve purity, cleanliness and salvation is through the Decontamination Unit: a tightly controlled disinfection zone manned by Guerilla Science. Microbiologists and psychiatrists will assess the contaminated revellers and determine if they require physical or moral decontamination: one route leads to the spilling of dirty secrets and psychological purging. The other: physical purification, complete with a chemical spray and a biohazard suit. After winding their way through our cleansing chambers, the purified will exit through The Skywalk onto the pristine second level of Shangri-La, having escaped the world of filth, and embarking into a brave, clean new world. The Skywalk is a prime vantage point where the clean can survey the filthy unfortunates below.
